Covers additional benefits provided by your membership of the Bupa Malta plan. These benefits may be in-patient, out-patient or day-case and cover varies depending on your level of cover. Please check the Table of Benefits to see the limits that apply to your level of cover.

3a: Home nursing after in-patient treatment

(Not applicable to the Bupa Malta Private Hospital Cover – Essential Option)

We pay for home nursing after eligible in-patient treatment. We pay if the home nursing:

  • is needed to provide medical care, not personal assistance
  • is necessary, meaning that without it, you would have to stay in hospital
  • starts immediately after you leave hospital
  • is provided by a qualified nurse in your home, and
  • is prescribed by your consultant


3b: 24 hour home nursing

We may pay 24 hour home nursing following in-patient treatment for which you are covered under your membership if your home nursing:

  • is directly related to the in-patient treatment
  • is needed for medical reasons and not for domestic or social reasons
  • is necessary – that is without it you have to stay in hospital
  • starts immediately after you leave hospital
  • is provided by a qualified nurse in your home, and
  • is carried out under the supervision of the consultant of your in-patient treatment.


3c: Rehabilitation

(Not applicable to the Bupa Malta Private Hospital Cover – Essential Option)

We may pay for rehabilitation, only when you have received our written agreement before the treatment starts for up to 14 days treatment in each membership year.

We only pay for rehabilitation following in-patient treatment eligible under your membership for a Major, Major Plus or Complex Major surgical operation determined by reference to the schedule of procedures. We may pay for rehabilitation when it:

  • is needed to provide medical care and not personal assistance
  • is necessary, meaning that without it you would have to stay in hospital
  • starts after you leave hospital and is carried out under the supervision of the consultant who provided the in-patient treatment.

3d: Maternity cover

Please ensure you pre-authorise your treatment by calling Bupa Malta on 21 342 342.

This benefit is only available from the mother’s maternity benefit and only if you have been a member of the plan for the whole of 12 months before you incur the medical expenses.

We pay a maternity cash benefit for each pregnancy for medical expenses you incur which are related to normal pregnancy and childbirth. To claim for this benefit please complete a claim form and send it together with a copy of the Birth Certificate and Co-operation Card to Bupa Malta.

3e: Emergency Local road ambulance

(not applicable to the Bupa Malta Private Hospital Cover - Essential Option)

We pay up to the limit specified in your benefit plan for medically necessary travel by local road ambulance when related to eligible in-patient or day-case treatment.

3f: Emergency dental treatment

(applicable only to the Bupa Malta Private Hospital Cover – Premier Option and the Bupa Malta International Cover – Gold Option)

We pay for accident-related dental treatment that you receive from a dental practitioner. By accident-related we mean the treatment of any sound natural tooth due to dental trauma caused by an accident or injury.
This cover will only apply if the dental practitioner confirms that the teeth treated were sound natural teeth, which were damaged as the result of an accident, injury or dental trauma. This cover does not apply for the repair or provision of dental implants, crowns or dentures.

Treatment must be provided and completed within three months of the date of the accident or injury.

3g: In-patient and Day-case cash benefit

(not applicable to the Bupa Malta Private Hospital Cover – Essential Option)

This benefit is paid instead of any other benefit for each night you receive eligible in-patient or day-case treatment without charge in a State Hospital. To claim this benefit, please ask the hospital to sign and stamp your claim form and also attach the original case summary given to you by the hospital.

3h: Repatriation of mortal remains

(Applicable only to the Bupa Malta International Cover - Standard and Gold Options)

We pay for reasonable costs for the transportation only of your body or cremated mortal remains to your home country or to your country of residence:

  • in the event of your death while you are away from home, and
  • subject to airline requirements and restrictions.


We do not pay for burial or cremation, the cost of burial caskets etc, or the trasport costs for someone to collect or accompany your mortal remains.
